For the sake of Earth, could you please stop buying things you don’t need and things you want to keep as an extra? When you needed to buy, have you considered the consequences enough? Easier questions! What was taken into your consideration to buy new things? Or have you considered nothing at all? Because every time you “THINK TO BUY” is utterly essential, let’s say, for our prolonged sakes. And here I will explain WHY and give you a bunch of stuff to think about before you eventually BUY.

You may recognize the current health condition of our planet earth like how her resources have become strictly limited to fill our everyday needs or like how she has received a tremendous amount of daily unnecessary wastes from our unnecessary daily routines. I have one good example for you to be transparent. Global warming! Have you felt hotter year by year? Life isn’t easy living together with increasing heat-trapping greenhouse gas levels in our atmosphere. Right?

Therefore, we need to take care of our home, which we entirely rely on for a living. And I presume you agree with me and let me convince you to think a lot before an actual buying. This way can help us live sustainably, regeneratively, and conservatively.

There is no Planet B

Cosmetics, for example, if you have enough shades for your lips, you won’t need to buy new red color lipstick only because you fancy the brand. You have no idea how much a pretty-name cosmetic industry can produce such dirty, dangerous toxic chemical wastes a day. But when your foundation entirely runs out, and you are an everyday make-up person, then you need to buy a new one. If I were you, first of all, I don’t want my face to be strained with blood. I will say “bye-bye” to any animal testing brand. And I hope you are not satisfied with only the glow and rejuvenating effects of your cosmetics. At least I beg you to check “what is it made with?” or “what are the main ingredients?”. Plants-based ones are always good for everyone, even for nature because not many toxic dumps are included.

Sometimes you can see that some companies acclaim themselves as a sustainable brand by producing in sustainable ways and by using sustainable stuff and packaging. Speaking of packaging, I have always been a big fan of super simple packing made with fewer plastics. You know how long a plastic bottle can stay in the environment without deposing. It is at least 450 years. What a significant number! So clearly, you have to reduce unnecessary uses. I mean, like you shouldn’t have five plastic shampoo bottles in your bathroom. It would be better if you also use some brands that offer recycling options simultaneously. They offer you to send back your empty bottles after use to be recycled. Isn’t it very cool? You can be both pretty and eco-friendly.

Cruelty Free Makeup

It is all the same. Wouldn’t you love to wear a sneaker made of bamboo or recycled ocean wastes, vegan leather boots, or artificial fur coats? You don’t want to wear a snake or crocodile or bear. You know exactly how cruel it is. If you pay attention to shopping for the sake of your own and your planet, you will look more profound than its prettiness. You will see recycled sunglasses, organic cotton t-shirts, jeans, swimsuits, cardigans made with biodegradable fabrics, recycled jewels, etc. And you will love it. You will be proud to use it. I am positive about it.

Eco Friendly

You will need more for your days besides clothing and cosmetics. You can do the same when it comes to shopping. Who needs three extra keyboards for a laptop? Even for all electronic devices, household stuff, school staff, and every little big stuff, you can surprisingly find the right things. I mean sustainable ones, of course. It would help if you thought about how to approach and buy. By the way, saying no to plastic bags is also smart shopping if I recall the inevitable shopping policy for the environment.

And It is always a pleasure to purchase some brands based on PPP (Planet, People, and Profit). For example, they commit to carbon-neutral practices, donate to reverse climate change, or grantee to provide human rights for their workers. Women-leading companies should be on the list if you want to support woman empowerment in anyways. Plus, local brands are always recommended to help your people and their valuable works. When you walk into the store, you check not only price tags and how it looks outside, you will also need to discover what this brand stands for. Social Media, especially Instagram, plays a significant role in getting to know more about brands quickly and keeping a close eye on how they are operating lately.

Eco Friendly Fashion

These are only a few options I point out for you to consider before buying. I believe that there may be many more priorities regarding your moral codes and your environmental opinions. The main objective here is not to fast buy and put a lot of effort into thinking before buying. In this way, you will be saving the world. You are an environmentalist. Because you will reduce, reuse and recycle. And I am sure you will save money too. So why don’t you set such priorities and options for every time you “THINK TO BUY.”

Hello, I am Jayla Aye. I am almost 13 years old and I am the daughter of Flora Aye, the founder of Burmese Vegan. In this blog, I will be sharing what the experience of transitioning to a vegan diet is like from my perspective as well as the pros of being a vegan.

Why Go Vegan

It started when my mother had decided to become a vegan for ethical and health reasons. We had slowly started cutting certain foods out of our diet like meat, dairy products, as well as honey. Although it wasn’t too difficult to adjust to this lifestyle as we would always consume plant-based foods, I found it quite boring as I was always a meat lover. I eventually got more used to the lifestyle as I found substitutes for animal products as well as having certain foods grow on me. Knowing that I could enjoy certain foods that may taste the same as animal products and still be consuming more healthily and ethically had made me stick to being vegan for a while which is also why I’d encourage others to do the same.

There are many advantages to being vegan which I could make a list for, they include :

Fight for Your Well Being
1.

Feeling lighter after consuming large meals.

2.

Gaining less unhealthy weight.

3.

Having a more efficient and quicker working digestion process.

4.

Having less plaque (fatty deposits that may block your bloodstream) form in your blood vessels.

5.

Less body odor.

6.

Less risk of receiving illnesses such as diabetes and heart disease.

7.

... And probably more which I have not listed.

Don't Let Anything Discourage You

Through this journey of transitioning into the vegan diet, I would like to thank my younger siblings as they were the ones who had encouraged and helped me get into this healthier lifestyle quicker. I would also like to thank my mother for always introducing me to many types of vegan foods and making sure to feed me nutritious and delicious foods every day. Because of my family, I was able to discover this amazing lifestyle and start living healthier, happier, and more guilt-free than I was before.

Thank you for reading

-Jayla Aye

After our first market sale and success, we were more excited and looking forward to our next market sale with a few worries behind like will we do great as last time. Also being in an upbeat area like Thonglor for the first time, was more exciting and made me nervous, to be honest.

When we arrived at The Hive on that Saturday morning with rush and nervousness, we were welcomed by smiles from the host and The Hive staff. And that warm welcoming and being in the comfortable atmosphere made us get into the flow of motivation to present our beloved Burmese Vegan goodies at our best.

BV Stand

Even the day has started slow, it gets moving fast by the afternoon. We got to introduce our Maverlous Laphet to new people, we received love and support from our friends and fans by everyone stopping by. Our delicious Burmese treats from Delicious Burma have sold out by the end of the day along we have sold many sets of our fermented tea leaves jars and Crunchy Delight. We were really happy on cloud 9 as well as we felt so drained.

BV Team with Pastor

But coming home with lots of satisfaction, appreciation of each other as teamwork, and yummy chocolate ice cream to enjoy at the end of my day was my perfect Christmas vibes after all. Thank everyone who came and show so much love and support on that day.

For Thanksgiving, Burmese Vegan teamed up with Saptha Indian plant-powered restaurant and Curry Kween of The Courageous Kitchen for Thanksgiving Dinner. It was a unique collaboration of Indian, Thai, and Burmese spices and flavor to create an exciting five-course dinner: Burmese Salad, Thai Khao Soi, Samosa Smash, followed by Indian Nans and Curries. We ended the set by serving savory Burmese mango jelly dessert.

National Pride of Myanmar

It was a success, and everyone enjoyed the efforts of the Curry Night. So, what did Burmese Vegan serve at the dinner exactly? We served our national pride, fermented tea leaves salad, as a starter.

Tea Leaves Salad is made with fermented young tea leaves, which we pickled with a little bit of salt, chilly, and lime to flavor that sourness and spiciness for a uniquely tangy taste. We mix that with extra crunchy fired mixed beans of split peas, broad beans, peanuts, and flat beans to add nutty and beany flavors to the salad. We also combine that with chopped cabbage, tomatoes, and shredded carrot to add different sweetness and flavors from fresh vegetables. I mixed all of those mentioned earlier and sided with green chilies, chopped garlic, lime wedge, and topped with crispy shallots to add the extra sweetness for the whole salad plate.

Last but not least, we came up with this Burmese sweetness and dessert called Mango Coco Jelly, which is made with fresh mango puree, coconut milk, Agar Agar, sugar, and salt. We paired it with a mixture of cashew yogurt and passionfruit sauce by Ms. Panisha, of Curry Kween, from The Courageous Kitchen.

Our story

"Mango is King"

A well-known Burmese saying goes, “Mango is the king of fruit.” Recalling our traditional quote, I wanted to serve this Mango Coconut Jelly. Sweet and sour flavors of mangoes blended with creamy coconut milk, there is heaven to tone down all the spices you have gotten from curries and spices in previous courses of the night. 2 tones traditional dessert which got everyone’s love.
